Former NBC Director-General Dr. Ishaq Modibbo Kawu Hosts ASKOMP, Advocates for Training and Retraining
In an exclusive interaction with the Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) at his GRA Ilorin residence, former National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) Director-General Dr. Ishaq Modibbo Kawu shared his insights on journalism ethics, media integrity, and the digital space.
During the discussion, Dr. Kawu criticized media houses for giving awards to politicians, describing it as a joke that undermines journalism’s integrity.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration and unity among journalists, rather than viewing each other as competitors.
Dr. Kawu also expressed his opposition to regulating social media, highlighting the significance of freedom of expression and the digital space.
As training and re-training remain penecea and crucial for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of staff, the former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) emphasized the importance of continuous capacity building to enhance and improve the productivity of journalists.
The former NBC Director-General also shared his experience as an Editor at Daily Trust Newspaper, where he never proposed awarding politicians, as it compromises media credibility. Instead, Daily Trust honored professionals making a positive impact, such as a doctor in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, who assisted raped women.
