Jagunma: Group Gives Governor AbdulRazaq 7-Day Ultimatum to Sack Aide
The Kwara Advancement Initiative (KAI), a civil society and non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting good governance and accountability in Kwara State has issued a 7-day ultimatum to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, demanding the immediate dismissal of Suleiman Abubakar, popularly known as Sai Kai, from his position as Special Adviser on Political Matters.
The group, in a statement signed by its Head, Democratic Mobilization and Monitoring Desk,Hajia Adeola Bashiru, accused Sai Kai of engaging in acts detrimental to the unity of the Ilorin Emirate Youth Development Association (IEYDA), a key body under the Emir of Ilorin’s patronage.
According to the Kwara Advancement Initiative group (KAI), Sai Kai’s conduct amounted to an “abomination,” and any failure by the governor to relieve him of his duties would indicate complicity.
“We have it on good authority that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has been going about telling top clerics and traditional rulers denying instructing Sai Kai to balkanize the IEYDA. However, if this is true, it behooves the governor to act decisively by sacking this cancerous and leprous hand in his government,” the group stated in a fiery release.
KAI maintained that the governor’s response—or lack thereof—would either vindicate him or expose him as “the masquerade behind the abominable conduct of Sai Kai.”
The group argued that dismissing Sai Kai would also serve as a deterrent to other overzealous aides who might engage in similar actions in the future.
Sai Kai had reportedly admitted to orchestrating the attempted division of the IEYDA, justifying his actions on the grounds that the AbdulRazaq-led government could not control the levers of the group for political gains. His remarks have sparked outrage within the emirate, with many accusing the governor of enabling divisive politics within the youth organization set up by the Emir.
“Only by sacking Sai Kai can the governor convince the public that he truly had no knowledge of this disgraceful conduct,” the group stated.
This ultimatum comes amid rising tensions between the AbdulRazaq administration and development associations across Ilorin Emirates. Many have accused the governor’s aides of overstepping their bounds in pursuit of political objectives.
The next seven days will be critical as observers await Governor AbdulRazaq’s response to the growing controversy.
