Nigeria’s Ministry of Education Announces New Requirements for University Applications

Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, recently made an important announcement regarding the requirements for university applications in the country. Starting next year, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will enforce a mandatory age requirement of 18 years for all applicants.

This decision comes in response to concerns about underage students attempting to enroll in higher education institutions.

To further reinforce this policy, both the National Examination Council of Nigeria (NECO) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have instructed to disallow underage children from taking their examinations.

The Ministry of Education believes that this measure will help maintain the integrity of the education system and ensure that students are adequately prepared for the challenges they will face in their academic pursuits.
