Senate honours late Oyo Rep, observes minute’s silence

The Senate mourned on Wednesday the passing of Hon. Olaide Odewale Akinremi, a member of the House of Representatives.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker, who represented Ibadan-North Federal Constituency of Oyo State, died in the early hours of Wednesday after a “brief illness.” He was 52 years old.

The President of the Senate, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, along with other senators, observed a minute of silence in honor of the late legislator

In accordance with tradition, the Red Chamber also suspended all legislative activities until Thursday, July 11.

“On behalf of the Senate, I extend condolences to the family of our departed honorable member, the House of Representatives, and the people of Oyo State,” stated Akpabio as senators offered prayers for the repose of his soul.

Prior to the suspension of legislative activities, Senate Leader Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele informed his colleagues that the Senate had received communication from the House of Representatives notifying them of Hon. Akinremi’s passing.

“In keeping with our tradition, I sadly move that the Senate suspend legislative activities for today and that all items on the Order Paper be deferred until the next legislative day,” Bamidele moved a motion that was unanimously endorsed, thereby

“Throughout his tenure, he was a staunch advocate for policies and initiatives that promoted social welfare, economic growth, and scientific research. His contributions to legislative debates and his active participation in committee activities were a testament to his dedication and hard work.
