2027: Datti Baba-Ahmed Says Unseating Tinubu Requires Grassroots Action, Not Court Battles
A former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has stated that defeating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections will require decisive political mobilisation rather than reliance on legal action.
Baba-Ahmed made the remarks in a video currently circulating on social media, where he criticised Nigeria’s electoral process and judicial system, alleging that constitutional provisions were violated during the 2023 presidential election.
According to him, the judiciary is limited in its ability to overturn entrenched political outcomes, stressing that meaningful change must come through sustained civic engagement and organised political action.
“I told Peter Obi that the Supreme Court cannot give you a governorship and then give you the presidency. The Nigerian Constitution was clearly breached,” he said.
Drawing parallels with the historic June 12 struggle, the Kaduna-born politician noted that political actors in the past were relentless in defending their mandates, mobilising citizens over extended periods to resist perceived injustice.
While expressing dissatisfaction with what he described as constitutional abuse, Baba-Ahmed acknowledged that those currently in power have demonstrated strong organisational capacity in protecting their political interests.
He maintained that any opposition seeking to unseat President Tinubu must be prepared to confront systemic challenges head-on.
