Wahab Oba: Kwarans must unite to Reject Gov. AbdulRahman’s ‘Third Term’ through the Backdoor

As the 2027 general elections clocks in gradually, a former Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Wahab Oba, has called on opposition parties and stakeholders to unite in preventing Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq from securing what he described as a “third term through the backdoor.”

In a New Year message released over the weekend, Oba expressed concern over the state’s trajectory under the current administration, describing it as a period marked by failed promises, lack of transparency, and disregard for the welfare of the people.

“The failures of this administration underscore the urgency for a government that values transparency, respects traditions, and prioritizes the welfare of its citizens,” Oba wrote.

Oba’s statement emphasized the need for collaboration among opposition parties to ensure a united front in the 2027 elections. He cautioned that personal ambitions within the opposition must not overshadow the collective goal of reclaiming governance in Kwara State.

“Unity is not just an option; it is a necessity if we are to reclaim the soul of Kwara State from this administration. The time has come for us to put the collective interest above personal ambitions,” he said.

The former CPS warned that fragmentation within the opposition would only strengthen the ruling party’s grip on power, potentially allowing Governor AbdulRazaq to maintain influence even after his tenure expires.

“Kwara deserves better—a future built on accountability, collective progress, and equitable development. May 2027 bring renewed hope and prosperity to all Kwarans,” he added.

Political analysts note that the upcoming elections will be a test of the opposition’s ability to present a cohesive and viable alternative to the ruling party. Oba’s statement is likely to resonate with many Kwarans dissatisfied with the current state of affairs.
