Decay of Basic Education Infrastructure at Mandate Junior Secondary School, Adeta: A Call for Urgent Intervention

Idris AbdulGaniyu Yinka

Despite the Kwara State Government’s efforts through the Ministry of Education and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to provide world-class infrastructure to basic schools across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state, hundreds of schools still remain in a state of severe decay.

Mandate Junior Secondary School, Adeta Ilorin situated around the Adeta axis, near Universal Basic Education (UBE) Model Smart School, Ilorin is among schools. crying for government help.

The government’s effort to promote effective teaching and learning through a conducive environment appears to have fallen short in some areas.

A recent visit to Mandate Junior Secondary School, Adeta, in the Adewole Ward of Ilorin West Local Government Area by a Trove Online Media correspondent, who had gone to register his younger brother, revealed a disturbing situation—completely dilapidated classrooms and staff rooms that have forced teachers to sit under trees, turning them into makeshift classrooms..

It is disheartening that the school, established in the early 2000s, is now managing only three functional classrooms, while over 15 others are in total disrepair. More than 80% of the roofs have collapsed, and there are no chairs or tables—not even for the teachers—who struggle to find a place to sit during breaks.

The condition of Mandate Junior Secondary School demands not just a minor renovation but a total intervention. We therefore call on the appropriate authorities to, as a matter of urgency, come to the aid of this institution and its learners, the leaders of tomorrow. Allowing this situation to persist will have a direct and damaging impact on the education and future of these children.
