FG, US Conduct Joint Precision Strike on ISIS Enclaves in Sokoto

The Federal Government of Nigeria, in coordination with the Government of the United States of America, has carried out precision strike operations targeting two major Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist enclaves within the Bauni forest axis of Tangaza Local Government Area, Sokoto State.

According to authoritative sources, intelligence reports confirmed that the locations were being used by foreign ISIS fighters infiltrating Nigeria from the Sahel region.

These elements were reportedly working with local affiliates to plan and launch large-scale attacks within the country.

The coordinated strikes, executed between 00:12hrs and 01:30hrs on Friday, December 26, 2025, followed direct approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. The operation was conducted under established military command structures, with the active involvement of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, and supervision from the Ministers of Defence and Foreign Affairs alongside the Chief of Defence Staff.

Military officials disclosed that the strikes were launched from maritime platforms positioned in the Gulf of Guinea, after extensive intelligence gathering and reconnaissance.

A total of 16 GPS-guided precision munitions were deployed using MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial platforms, successfully neutralising targeted ISIS operatives attempting to advance through the Sahel corridor.

During the operation, remnants of expended munitions reportedly landed in Jabo, Tambuwal LGA of Sokoto State, and in Offa, Kwara State, near a hotel area. There were no civilian casualties, and security agencies promptly secured the affected sites.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to combating terrorism, degrading insurgent networks, and safeguarding national security. It also emphasised continued collaboration with international allies to strengthen border control and foster regional stability.

Government authorities urged citizens to remain calm and vigilant, assuring that decisive measures are ongoing to eliminate terrorist threats across the country.
