Saraki Blasts Kwara APC Government Over Rising Insecurity, Calls for PDP Mobilisation Ahead of 2027

The 8th Senate President and National Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government in Kwara State, accusing it of neglecting its constitutional responsibility to safeguard lives and property.

Saraki made the remarks on Saturday during the PDP State Congress themed “Let’s Re-secure Kwara” held at the Arca Santa Arena, Ajase-Ipo Road, Ilorin. He warned that the state was sliding into an unprecedented wave of insecurity.

“Our state is being overrun by bandits, kidnappers, and killers who have waged a ceaseless, needless, and careless onslaught on our people. Yet, the government in Kwara State and those in charge have maintained a posture of apathy, nonchalance, and carefree attitude,” he said.

The PDP leader lamented what he described as a disturbing rise in violent incidents in the past year. According to him, about 70 people have been killed in Kwara North and South, 50 others injured, 42 kidnapped, while more than 25 communities have been deserted.

He argued that the government’s inaction runs contrary to Section 14 (2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution, which places the security and welfare of citizens as the primary duty of government. He further accused the administration of living “in denial” and attempting to suppress facts instead of addressing the crisis.

“No responsible citizen or party will play politics with the danger to the lives and livelihood of people. But as responsible politicians and platforms who want to genuinely serve our people, we will not keep quiet,” Saraki vowed.

Comparing the situation to previous administrations, the former Senate President maintained that Kwara did not experience such insecurity under PDP leadership. He cited the tenures of former governors including Adamu Atta, Cornelius Adebayo, Shaba Lafiagi, and Mohammed Lawal, as well as his own eight-year tenure, insisting that none witnessed such widespread security challenges.

Saraki also drew parallels with neighbouring states, noting that Niger, Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, and Kogi had fared better in addressing insecurity. He described the worsening situation in Kwara as “a reflection of a clueless and lackadaisical government.”

Looking ahead, he urged PDP members to intensify mobilisation efforts in preparation for the 2027 elections. “The stakes are too high now for Kwarans to reward failure. Our people must be enlightened and mobilised to vote out the clueless people in the present government,” he said.

Saraki congratulated newly elected party executives at ward, local government, and state levels, commending them for peaceful and well-organised congresses which, according to him, reflected “the values of good leadership, organisation, and discipline.”

He also appreciated outgoing executives for their service, assuring them of continued relevance within the party.

Reiterating PDP’s position as the preferred alternative for the people of Kwara, Saraki declared: “As of today, it is clear to all that PDP is the only viable alternative. In Kwara State, the clear choice of our people for making life secure, better, and fulfilling is the PDP.
