Worshippers Flee as Suspected Armed Herders Invade Nasarawa Community

Panic erupted on Monday night in Agboda village, Nasarawa State, after worshippers attending a Christian crusade fled for safety over reports of an invasion by suspected armed herdsmen.

A viral video from the scene showed congregants running in different directions, screaming as the once-peaceful gathering descended into chaos.

Although no armed men were seen in the footage, residents said fear spread rapidly after word circulated that suspected armed herders were heading toward the crusade venue.

One resident who filmed the incident said the community was thrown into confusion.

“They came for a crusade here in Agboda in Nasarawa State. Look at what the herdsmen did. As you can see the way people are moving… you can see the youth, everybody is unrest for the sake of herdsmen,” he said.

However, the Nasarawa State Police Command says it has no record of such an incident.
Police spokesperson Ramhan Hansel told The Cable that no report had been filed regarding the alleged invasion.

“We don’t know where that incident happened, and there is no report of anything like that in Nasarawa State,” Hansel said. “If you know the person in the video, you can help us speak to him and ask him to kindly come forward.”

Hansel added that the police cannot initiate an investigation without a formal complaint from residents.

“Since morning, we have been calling all DPOs across the state asking, ‘Where is this place located?’ but we are yet to get any feedback,” he said. “We appeal to the person in the video or anyone who knows him to please come forward.”
The police reiterated that while they have seen the viral video, no official report has been made to any division or outpost in the state.
