Ali Ndume secures APC ticket for fifth term in senate
Former Senate Leader Ali Ndume has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket for Borno South ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ndume emerged as the party’s candidate through an affirmation process conducted during the APC primary election held in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
His emergence followed the withdrawal of his closest challenger, Abdullahi Askira, who stepped down from the race after consultations with party leaders and stakeholders in the district.
Askira, who currently serves as the Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, said his decision was made in the interest of party unity.
Reacting to his victory, Ndume expressed appreciation to APC stakeholders, delegates, and supporters across Borno South for their continued confidence in his leadership.
He pledged to remain committed to protecting and advancing the interests of the district while also commending Askira for prioritizing party cohesion.
Ndume further called on party members to remain united as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections.
If re-elected, the lawmaker will begin a fifth term in the Senate, further extending a legislative career that started in the House of Representatives before his move to the upper chamber.
