Dr. Sikirullahi Atanda Adenigba of Al-Hikmah University is dead
Al Hikmah University, Ilorin has lost one of his staffs Dr. Sikirullahi Atanda Adenigba who died in a fatal motor accident at about 5:30pm yesterday, Thursday, 18th July, 2024 along Ibadan- Lagos Expressway.
The information got to our Correspondent Idris Abdulganiy Yinka through an online interview (WhatsApp) from one of his Departmental colleague Dr. Sanusi Lafiagi earlier this morning. He disclosed to us that Dr. Sikirullahi left Ilorin to Lagos yesterday afternoon to go and see his family and he had an accident on his way.
Dr. Adenigba joined the service of Al-Hikmah University on 1st April, 2011 as Assistant Lecturer and he was promoted to the rank of Reader on 7th June, 2024. Dr. Adenigba was acting Head of Department, Islamic Studies.
The late Dr. Adenigba was a brilliant, devoted sufist, genius, intelligent and committed, loyal and God-fearing staff. He was admired by both his colleagues and students.
A Short Biography of late Dr. Adenigba
Adenigba was born on the 18th of June, 1969 in Lagos Island, Lagos state while he was a native of Ora Town in Kwara State, Nigeria. He obtained his I’dādiyyah Certificate in 1990, Thānawiyyah Certificate in 1993, West African Senior School Certificate (WAEC) in 2001.
In 2001 Adenigba had his Diploma in Arabic and Islamic Studies, B. A (Hons.) in Islamic Studies in 2007, M.A. in Islamic Studies in 2011, PGDE in 2017, and completed his PhD in 2018 in Lagos State University respectively.
Adenigba’s teaching prowess impacted countless scholars, with students earning B.A., M.A., and even PhD degrees in Arabic and Islamic studies from both Nigerian and foreign universities. Many of his students have become influential figures as imams, preachers, and proprietors of Arabic schools.
He held the position of Head of the Department of Islamic Studies Alhikmah University chapter until his passing, showcasing his expertise in various fields, including Fiqh, Sufism, Family, and Antics. Additionally, he authored numerous articles published in both local and international papers.
Adenigba won the Best Research award and this year 2024, he was also promoted to the post of Associate Professor of Islamic Studies. He was survived by his aged father, wife and children.
May Allāh accept his return and forgive all his shortcomings and make Aljanat fridaus his final destination.
