2027: Kwara PDP Warns Excos Against Interference as Primaries Begin Sunday
As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) begins its primary election process for the 2027 general elections, the leadership of the party in Kwara State has issued a strong warning to executive members against undue interference in the exercise.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a transparent, credible, peaceful, and democratic process that reflects the collective will of members across the state. It stated that every stage of the primaries would be guided strictly by the constitution, rules, and guidelines of the PDP.
In a statement issued by the State Secretary of the party, Abdullahi Kayode, the State Working Committee (SWC) cautioned executive members of the party at all levels against acts capable of undermining the integrity of the exercise.
The statement warned that any executive member found engaging in manipulation, intimidation, inducement, imposition, or any conduct capable of jeopardising the credibility and success of the primaries would face severe disciplinary actions, including outright dismissal from his or her position.
According to the party, it will not tolerate actions capable of creating division, confusion, or disaffection among members during the primary election process.
“All officials saddled with responsibilities before, during, and after the primaries are expected to conduct themselves with the highest level of neutrality, responsibility, and commitment to the democratic ideals of the party,” the statement added.
The party also appealed to aspirants, supporters, and members to remain peaceful, orderly, and law-abiding throughout the exercise, stressing that the PDP remains one united family despite the competitive nature of the process.
It further urged members to embrace sportsmanship, mutual respect, and party unity in the overall interest of securing victory in the 2027 general elections.
The Kwara PDP equally called on security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to cooperate with the party to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free exercise across the state.
The party expressed confidence that the primary election process would further strengthen its internal democracy and position it strongly ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
